MESSAGES

2020

12.1.2020
Good morning, Ladies,

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving wherever you are in our country. We certainly have much to be thankful for and now with the vaccine on the horizon, 2021 is looking very promising.  I just heard on the news that all Americans will have access to the vaccine by early summer.  Let’s hope.

We are now moving into the holiday season, and traditionally the Bangor Women’s Golf Club has made donations to Toys for Tots. As this year we will not be gathering for a holiday party, (which we will greatly miss) let’s still continue our tradition of giving.  I spoke with Jean Young, and this is our thought. Each day in the Bangor Daily, there is a Santa’s Helper Giving Update. Donations are published in the Santa’s Helper daily column with the donation amount, and all money received specifically earmarked for the Salvation Army.  Certainly, this is a year to help those who need help, and there are many.

Therefore,  so we would ask and urge each of you to send your donation to Jean. Please make your check payable to BWGC no later than December 17th, and then she will send a check to the Salvation Army from our treasury. The Bangor Women’s Golf Club will be listed as a donor with the amount in the paper.  I will try to watch for when it is published and will send you the final tally.

Jean Young

Thanks so much, ladies.  Let us continue our tradition of being benevolent.

In the spirit of the season,
Robin

6,20 Ladies,
Good news!  Janet Anderson has agreed to chair the President’s Cup.  Thank you so much, Janet.  For now, Girls, you only have one thing to do!  Sign up!  The Pro Shop has the sign up sheet, and you just need to call and get your name on the list.  The deadline for sign up will be at the end of the day on Saturday, June 27th.  There will also be a sign up sheet in the locker room, or you can email Janet.  The Pro Shop will do the pairings, and the dates to do each round will be posted.  Remember, this is Match Play, and handicaps are used.  We really encourage all members to participate.  Match Play can be done on your schedule and need not be played on Thursdays.  More to come, but for now, get your name on the list!  We want and would love to have you working girls to join us, too!
We will be back at Muni on Thursday morning with an 8:00 A.M. shotgun.  Rob has said we can go back to shotguns, but he also wants us at our respective holes at 8:00 A.M.  That means we need to be ready to hear about the game in the area of the 1st tee no later than 7:50 A.M. Please do not be late.  Rob has also said that no other groups will get in between us this year so that means we need to be ready and keep up with the group in front of us.  We should all finish pretty much at the same time.  Call the clubhouse by Tuesday noon to sign up.
Thursday we have our June meeting following golf.  Andrew has said that we can meet down at the tables near the cemetery.  You will need to order your food and bring it down to that area.  I would suggest you might want to bring a chair as there are only 16 seats in that area.  We will try this and see if it works.  Zoom is still there if we decide it does not work.  I will be sending the agenda and a draft of the revised member booklet for you to look over before the meeting.
For those of you who played at Traditions and won, Susan Payne will distribute the winnings in cash on Thursday.  Some of you have asked about that.
Last of all, some of our members are playing in the Metropolitan down at Willowdale Golf Course in Scarborough with Maine State Golf.  We wish them well!
Have a good weekend, and stay cool.
Warmest regards,
Robin

Ladies,
We are unable to play Bangor Muni on June 18th so at the meeting the other day, it was decided we would go to Traditions if that day was open for Colin. Susan Payne got back to me with the information below. Susan Payne will be the contact person for our off site day. Thanks, Susan.
Sincerely,
Robin

Hi Robin,
Attached is the flyer as a pdf.
Hope this covers enough details to start.
We can add info with the tee time notice, and I can respond to individual questions as they occur.

Ladies,
Arnold Palmer once said, “The road to success is always under construction.” That about sums up our first Zoom meeting today. We are a work in progress. To all of you who got in, great. To those who did not, do not give up. We have been thrust into an age of virtual gatherings, and if that is the only way we can meet, then we have to try, try, and try again. We only got to part of the agenda, so we will meet again next Thursday at 4:30. Gwen will send out the minutes that we reached in today’s meeting. I, also, will keep you up to date with information that we need to know as we move forward in these unprecedented times.
By the way, we tee off next Thursday at 8:00 A.M. More to come.
Hang in there,
Robin

Ladies,

I am sending you a copy of the revised Member booklet that Gwen Archambault, Suzanne Roberts, and Robin Ashe worked on over the fall, winter and spring.  Much time was put into consolidating the information and trying to make it user friendly and a guide to our organization. Since there are some changes to the by-laws, it is important for you to look at those as we will need to discuss and vote on them.  To see the differences, you should go into the website where you can compare the old with the new. http://www.liz44.com/bangorgolf/.

You should have received the agenda for our meeting this Thursday, May 28th, at 4:30 P.M. via ZOOM.  I will send you the Zoom invitation tomorrow, Sunday.  I would suggest you go on a few minutes early on Thursday just so you have both the audio and video ready to go when I open the meeting.  You will need to click on the Zoom meeting link which you will receive, (not until Thursday), and you also will want to download the zoom ap.  I will try to conduct this meeting, and board members will fill you in on getting us all started.  We can do this, ladies, so look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

Be sure you call the Pro Shop to sign up for Thursday golf before noon on Tuesday.  Also, any updates on Covid-19 restrictions can be found on the Bangor Muni website.  www.bangorgc.com

Stay safe,
5.21.20
Ladies,

We cannot have our traditional May meeting as you may have guessed. So we are going to attempt to have our first golf meeting next Thursday, May 28th, at 4:30 P.M. via Zoom right from your individual houses.  I will send you a zoom link, and you will only need to click on it. Those of you in Arizona will need to be on at 2:00 P.M. We shall try to have our meeting and accomplish some early tasks like people agreeing to share important chair positions.  This is an unusual year, and we are putting our best foot forward. I hope Zoom works for us all, but we will try!  Thanks, everyone, for being flexible and moving forward.  Also, you will be receiving our revised Member booklet in the next few days, also.  Review that as well, and we are good to go.

Thanks, ladies.  Talk next week.  Questions, please email me.

Warmest regards,

Ladies,
Hello on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.  Some of you golfed today while others of you may have watched the Taylor Made Driving Relief, two teams of golf and live, to help with Covid-19 relief.  Whatever you did,  I do hope you had or are having a good day.

I do have some info so the next two weeks will go smoothly with our Thursday golf:
There will be ladies’ golf both this week on May 21st and May 28th.
You must call the pro shop before Tuesday noon to sign up and pay.
The clubhouse will do the pairings, and you will be notified as to whom you are playing with and what time.
Tee times begin at 9:00 A.M.
Bring your own water, snacks, and there is only one bathroom.  The clubhouse is not yet opened.
There is no official game until June 4th.
You will need to print a scorecard and bring a pencil as none will be provided.
Post your score on the ghin ap.  More to follow about posting before we officially begin our games on June 4th.
Thank you for your patience.  Stay tuned for new updates as we move to Stage II of the Restarting of Maine’s Economy.
We heartily welcome two new members to our league:  Kristen Callagy and Dee Pelletier.  We know you are both working but hope you are able to join us on a Thursday or two or more.
I am attaching my President’s 2020 Message.
Warmest regards,
Robin

Dear Ladies,

No, I have not forgotten you. The Bangor Women’s Golf Club is just getting off to a later start than normal this year. I wanted to wait until the executive board had its first meeting to figure out our plan before I sent you anything. We are here for you, and our golf season will begin on May 21st. Your BWGC Executive board officially met today for our first Zoom meeting.  We worked out the kinks yesterday with all 9 of us learning about this virtual world and its technology that we are living in these days.  We will Zoom again tomorrow to finish our meeting, but I wanted to share some information with you about our Thursday golf.  Please read carefully as most of these instructions are from the Pro Shop.  Some of you may want to start this Thursday, but it will be with you setting up your own group and making the tee time.  Bangor Muni has moved to tee times only, seven days a week which is a big change.  If any of these rules change, I will be in touch.

1.  Ladies can begin official play Thursday, May 21st in the 9:00 A.M. time frame. Rob had not booked off tee times for us for this week.  Sorry, girls.  I just learned this myself. If you want to play, just call and set up your own  group, and you must make the tee time with the pro shop.

2.  You must call the clubhouse by Tuesday noon to sign up for Thursday golf.  You must also indicate if you want to reserve a cart.

3.  If you are not a member of Bangor Muni, you will need to pay by credit card over the phone when you call in.

4.  No scorecards will be given out or pencils.  You will need to print the scorecard from the Bangor Muni website before you go and bring your own pencil.

5.  There is one porta-potty, and it is not out on the course yet.  The bathrooms inside the clubhouse are not open.

6.  Rob encourages all of us to review the Covid 19 restrictions on the Bangor Muni website www.bangorgc.com before coming.

7.  For the 21st and 28th of May, we will not pay any money for games.  We will just go out and play our own ball with our assigned group. The Pro Shop will set up the teams for us and the tee times.  You will be notified of your tee time in advance.

I will be in touch with you again very soon. Generally, after the board meeting, we meet with the whole membership to relay what we have done. We really need to see what happens as we move toward June 1st and what our Governor determines to be safe practices in the world we live in and including the golf world.  You might all want to consider downloading the Zoom ap as a possibility for us to have a general meeting, too. I do not foresee us together on the deck at Muni in the near future. Jean Young, our treasurer, mentioned today that she only has had 6 people pay their membership and ghin so if you have not done so, that is a priority.  Remember, the membership and ghin is $45.00.  If you get your ghin at another club, it is $30.00.  If any of your personal details have changed, let Jean Young know.

Posting your scores this year is different with the World Handicap System. When you download the USGA Ghin ap to your phone, you can post your score hole by hole, and the ap will adjust your score to the new system. Sue Roberts will be filling us in on rules and posting, and for now, starting the 21st, we will need to take a picture of our scorecard and email our scores to her.  More to come on that.

More to come but I hope this finds you in a good place and staying safe and well. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know or anyone on the board.

Warmest regards,
Robin Ashe
